Dr. Brooks Wuerdemann DCEM, EMP
Brooks Wuerdemann, DCEM, EMP, has dedicated his life to a diverse range of disciplines, including holistic health, technology, linguistics, and spiritual growth. Dr. Brooks’ rich educational and professional journey provides him with a truly unique and insightful approach to healing.
Dr. Brooks had been a student of qìgōng for fifteen years when his acupuncturist mentioned a nearby school. In that moment, a switch flipped, Dr. Brooks knew this was the work he was supposed to be doing.
The breadth of Chinese medicine is what fuels Dr. Brooks’ passion for it. He practices medical qìgōng, acupuncture and moxibustion, Chinese herbal medicine, and dietary therapy, always following the classical instruction that the physician blends whatever methods the patient requires for best healing.
Each method engages a different aspect of the physical, energetic, and spiritual body, making it possible to adjust therapy to the individual. Dr. Brooks’ training also carries a ritual and spiritual dimension. This spiritual realm being present as a clinical context was maintained in the imperial academies from the beginning of Chinese medicine until the Ming dynasties. Dr. Brooks has found that keeping this spiritual realm present in the clinic allows for a fuller understanding of a person’s complete health or disease condition, and therefore, more complete healing.
APPROACH
Dr. Brooks approaches each patient as a complex individual with physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, all of which are influencing each other and creating the whole person who can be supported through treatment and education. His work rests on three things: purging, supplementing, and regulating (PSR).
Purging means clearing out stagnation. Stagnation can refer to many conditions that create disharmony in the body; referring to a condition simply as stagnation, rather than “I have migraines,” can help dissolve emotional anchors of disease that keep it more easily connected to the body.
Supplementing means increasing the upright qì in the body. Once stagnation is cleared out, it often leaves deficiency in its wake, this is where Dr. Brooks directs supplementation.
Regulating is the process of evening out the body’s biofield, ensuring that there is neither excess nor deficiency in any area.
The order of PSR depends on individual assessment. The order of treatment isn’t fixed nor is there a standard protocol as each person is unique with specific needs. No matter what treatment is applied, Dr. Brooks’ goal isn’t to heal the body, it’s to return the body to its natural balanced state so that it can heal itself.
